Public speaking Class

COURSE HOURS, PREREQUISITES & DESCRIPTIONS

 

Public Speaking (Level 1)       180 Hour 10 weeks/term 18 hours/week

 

Prerequisites:  Passing ESL Level 6 or M-EPT 71+ and Public Speaking Placement Test raw 12-22

 

Public Speaking Class - Level One is a course driven by a process approach for international students to plan, compose, and deliver an effective presentation. By engaging in varying modes of communication, students will learn how to give speeches for multiple purposes and audience members. By using brainstorming maps, students will be given the tools to organize their topics and information. Upon completion of this course, students will improve their posture, eye contact and other mechanics of speech. The ultimate goal of this course is to give students the confidence and structure necessary to present powerful and engaging speeches, while maintaining ethical standards.

Public Speaking (Level 2)   180 Hour 10 weeks/term 18 hours/week

Prerequisites:  Public Speaking Level 1 or ESL Level 6 or Public Speaking M-EPT 71+ and Placement Test raw 23-30

 

Public Speaking Class - Level Two is a course driven by a process approach for international students to engage, build credibility, and deliver an engaging presentation. By connecting with numerous modes of communication, students will learn how to give impactful speeches with strong openers and closers. By utilizing presentation outlines and visual aids, students will be given the tools to explain details and stay on topic. Upon completion of this course, students will improve their articulation by emphasizing, by pausing, and incorporate sophisticated vocabulary into their speeches. The ultimate goal of this course or pronunciation class is to give students the poise and structure necessary to present powerful and engaging speeches, while sharing meaningful thoughts & responses through peer-evaluations.
